OSHA Fire Safety Training for Roof Mechanics is a fully OSHA compliant safety training program that covers the use of torch, hot air and fluid applied hot asphalt roofing systems and the propane and electric hot air weldng tools reqpuired for asphalt system installation and is also available in Virtual, Instructor Led Training Sessions.
The full-day program trains roof system installers on the safe use of fluid applied and torch grade polymer-modified bitumen roofing products. Fire safety training highlights the differences between the minimum OSHA fire prevention requirements, the NYC Torch Licenising requirements, and the more rigorous CERTA training. It shows how proper roof system configuration design and application techniques can result in fire-safe installations.
Fire Safety Training includes the requirements found in the New York torch applicator license program. License exams are conducted by the FDNY.
RST continues to work with the MRCA and the NRCA to make sure this program is up-to-date and of the highest quality. If you a NEED a CERTA Authorized Training and are required to produce CERTA Applicator Authorization cards, please skip to the next page.
There is no comparable training program offered by anyone else in the roofing industry!
The first part of the training is a 5 hour classroom based webinar where you are presented with the most up to date information and program requirements. New and previously certified participants all attend the same class.
Fire Safety Program Materials and Mockup guide will provide all of the information you will need to conduct a successful webinar based training session!
New this year.....
OSHA Fire Safety for Roofing Torch Applicators is available as a Virtual, Instructor Led Training (VILT) session that can be held at your convenience and at about 1/2 the cost of CERTA training.
Both the OSHA Fire Safety and CERTA Courses are offered in English and in Spanish. Schedules are convenient and cost effective.
Watch the video below and see how the the most common roof details are presented in a training mockup and what you will need to do to complete the hands-on evaluation for your crews.
Its straight forward and designed to be used by everyone!

If you are interested in the Webinar based CERTA training this 28 Minute Video will walk you through the steps of the Hands-On practical evaluation process.
The small flame at the lower right hand corner of the screen demonstrates the "visible" flame of a standard field roofing torch. This is the torch at its most common setting. What you see is about 24 inches of a conical shaped flame.
The infra-red camera image is of the same flame. As you can see the "hottest" part of the flame in yellow is more than 5 times the size of the flame you can see. This flame area averages 1800 degrees Fahrenheit
The side by side comparison shows the torch user exactly why this CERTA program is a "must have" for roofing torch users. This is an example of information the MRCA's program provides cannot be found anywhere else!
Here are all of the documents required when you participate in a Webinar based training Seminar!
